Mike Fryar has been a resident of Buncombe County for 50 years. He attended A.C. Reynolds High School and served in the U.S. Navy. A self-made man, Mike started his career sweeping floors for the legendary Banjo Matthews — working his way up the ladder and eventually starting his own engine business, Fryar Performance, in 1980.
Mike and his wife Brenda have two daughters and a grandson. He’s served on his Homeowners Association Board for seven years, three consecutive terms as President. They live in Fairview.
Mike played a major role in stopping the Asheville City Council from trying to force partisan elections on residents. He’s also fought the powers that be on Forced Annexation, the Race Track, and raising Sales Taxes in the county — and he won’t be afraid to stop the city from taking over the county government.
Mike also was the one who brought the public and the press's attention on the bloated salaries of our County Commissioners — with their excessive perks and travel allowances — and he stood up to wasteful spending at the Sheriff’s Department. Our current county commissioners have gone on a $300 Million spending spree — in the process doubling our Debt. Mike is running to insist that government operates within its means.
Mike’s skills were acquired over the years by on-the-job training, practical experience, and hard work. A small business owner now for 32 years, Mike is a no-nonsense fiscal conservative with an eye for the bottom-line. He understands the value of Common Sense and the real-life hardships that excessive government regulations have on the ability to find affordable housing and good-paying jobs.
From taking away your light bulbs to Zoning, Mike Fryar will fight for the Average Citizen and against the undue influence that special interests have on our local government.
